Two weeks too late, but still great.
Thought I would document this photo in blogger world. I really love it for some odd reason- I think it's because we all look so happy and content. I think it sums up my feeling toward university- all the pain, stress and sleep depravation is worth it when your stood in front of what you've made, with a beer in hand. GO TEAM! x

TOPMAN
Flyer (front and back)

Booklet- A2 sheet to be folded up to c
reate a square 28 page booklet.
A few digital images from our Topman brief. We were asked to create promotional material for the a new Topman store that is going to be opening in Chicago. We had to base our designs along the theme of a new trend called art school bloc. This trend utilises print, pattern, pastels, knit, fair isle, vintage accents in clothing, as well as bright colours, cut and paste techniques and bold typography in graphics.
I decided to base my campaign around the them of the bloc or cube, so I illustrated a piece of clothing that would fit within the trend and then turned this illustration into a series of origami cubes. I then based all my designs around the visuals the origami cubes created. I wanted to keep the subject matter somewhat ambiguous and broad so it would appeal to a wide range of people. I think with the flyers and booklet there is a sense of mystery, and with mystery comes excitement. I decided I did not want to use 'trend' images we were supplied with as I found they didn't excite me and I felt they would end up being more of a hinderance than a help.
These designs are only preliminary as I wish to add more outcomes, such as a large format poser, iphone/blackberry case and possibly an animation. I think that when I have printed the flyer and booklet on a good quality stock they will be a lot more effective.

New year, new skill.
I am trying to be a good person this year, I'm attempting to keep a form of diary which, to be truthful is so far from the traditional sense of the word you could barely call it a diary. I also want to learn how to crochet, and more specifically be able to make a granny square crochet blanket. I got a granny square book for christmas, and I've just found a hook in the loft- so now is a good a time as any. I was inspired by a post of the LivingEtc forum and instantly became VERY jealous.

I will learn how, I will, I will...

Year of the Rabbit

Belated, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I've got good vibes about 2011 and I quite like rabbits. A selection of a few more unusual gifts; bell jar from Rocket St.George, vintage 'Cooking with stork' cookery books from around the 1960s and glass cake stand both from the OK Corral. My collection of glass items is growing! Now just to find a place to put them...

Watery Type
An installation I saw in London while I was down there by Julius Popp, called bit.fall. The water acted as a medium for the typography, and showed live news stories from the Times online. Really interesting a affective, however in some places its quite difficult to read. x

Mapping Music
This project is finally done. Hurrah!
I really enjoyed it actually. I took a different approach to my research and idea generation stage and it seemed to have paid off. I didn't find I got stuck in a rut at any point with any of my ideas. If anything I had more than enough, and i would have loved to have taken more further. Maybe that will be a job over Christmas....

I chose the song Koral by the band oval- itunes it. It's very slow, repetitive and peaceful. In my final 'map' I tried to focus on the repetitive and simple nature of the song by making a never ending book. The book was comprised of 102 pages as there were 102 seconds in the song. I cut holes in each page to represent a note and how long it lasted for. I also made an A1 print showing each circle and a stop frame animation which would show how the holes and pages related to the song.
I'm not happy with the quality of the photos taken of the book- that shall be a job for xmas! Hope you enjoy x
