A bit excited already. Just found out everyone on the third year graphic design course will get the chance to work on a two day brief with Johnny Hardstaff, the man behind the brilliant video above as well as many others.

Letterpress

I had a potter around in the letterpress studio yesterday. This is one of the outcomes. Don't know what it is, but does it really matter?  Just came out of some experimenting with metal and wood type. Would be nice to use it in my current project, but we shall see where it goes from here!

Saul Bass film titles

Recently at university we were shown a selection of Saul Bass' film titles. I had not previously seen any moving image work from him. I really enjoyed them and felt like I could watch them over and over again. But now, thanks to Movie Title stills collection I have seen them as stills. The most amazing thing to me is how effective the designs are in both formats, with every frame being a design in it's own right.

'You only need six typefaces.'

I really great interview with Massimo Vignelli from the Design Matters series with Debbie Millman. They discuss everything from type to process and inspiration. I think I could listen to his voice all day. Listen here.

Comedy Carpet

The new comedy carpet in Blackpool in my opinion, is simply amazing. So huge and yet so detailed at the same time. It will have to be put on the list of places to visit. Especially love how the mighty boosh get a special mention. http://www.comedycarpet.com/

Summer Salt

For this years summer project we had to record ourselves in macro detail. I decided to record my emotions via an alternative diary. Each day I drew a picture, wrote a word to sum up the day and wrote what was the pit and peak of my day.

After collecting this data I found it didn't represent me as a person, or my emotions. I also found I really disliked doing my diary every night.
Make everyday special is a response to my lack of enthusiasm and engagement with my own diary. I found my entries over 39 days to be boring and pointless, so I have responded to this by making the entries more interesting a relevant to me. This has left me with a diary that I have a more of a connection with, as everyday is special.

I also creates a 'teaser' poster to promote my new form of diary.
